Ductile iron pipes

Ductile Iron Pipes
Socket pipes of ductile cast iron are available for fresh water supply (DIN EN 545) and waste water disposal (DIN EN 598).
Depending on the application area, these are available with different exterior and interior coatings, socket connections and wall thickness classes.

The advantages of ductile cast iron pipes include:
  • » high strength even with extreme coverage
  • » proof against roots
  • » integrity even at high internal pressures, low pressure and high ground water levels
  • » great economy due to their durability (longest working life of all pipe materials up to 140 years)
  • » deviation capability of the connections up to 5°, depending on nominal width
  • » high safety reserves (for pressure fluctuations, static overloads, against outside effects)
  • » resistant to point stresses (stones or shards)
  • » constant material properties (long-term durability)
  • » low damage rate
  • » diffusion-proof
  • » can be laid in all weathers
  • » simple socket connection

Exterior coatings for extreme durability :

Ductile cast iron pipes are known for their extreme durability. This is achieved not least by the various exterior coatings available.

– Zinc protection with epoxy resin coating (Buderus Ductile)

Available in the nominal widths DN 80 to DN 1000 for pipes with the wall thickness class K9. Suitable for use in non-aggressive to mildly aggressive soils with a maximum particle size of up to 32 mm.

– Zinc-aluminium protection with epoxy resin coating (Buderus Zink-PLUS)

The zinc-aluminium with a weight of 400g/m² ensures an even longer working life. This coating can also be used in soils with a maximum particle size of up to 32 mm. The zinc-aluminium protection is available for pipes of Class 40 (Buderus Zink-PLUS) and the wall thickness class K9 (Buderus Zink-PLUS K9) in the nominal widths DN 80 to DN 400.

– Zinc protection with plastic-modified cement mortar sheath (ZMU)

Pipes with a plastic-modified cement mortar coating can be installed in soils of any level of aggressiveness with a maximum particle size of 100 mm. This exterior coating is available for pipes with the wall thickness class K9 in the nominal widths DN 80 to DN 1000.Further casings are also possible on request.

Interior coating for hygienic and ecological operation
Depending on the application or medium, ductile cast iron pipes can be provided with various cement mortar linings:

Blast-furnace cement (HOZ) for fresh water supply
– ideal for fresh water transport due to the inorganic lining
– extremely abrasion-proof and durable thanks to the centrifugal casting process

Alumina cement (TZ) for waste water disposal
– possible flow speeds of up to 20 m/s
– used for domestic waste water with pH-values of 4 to 10
